Romanita Matta-Barrera

Romanita Mata-Barrera joined SA Works in August 2016 as the Executive Director and leads efforts to align education, workforce and economic development with the talent needs of San Antonio’s current and future employers. Prior to taking on the role, Matta-Barrera served as president and CEO of Fluent Strategy Group for eight years working on strategic initiatives, federal funding, public policy and multicultural marketing and advocacy with clients such as H-E-B, AARP and the AARP Foundation Tax-Aide, AVANCE National, SER National and Zero-to-Three. Her career has taken her from serving the San Antonio community for job-seekers with SER Jobs for Progress to Washington, D.C. in shaping education policy as Deputy Director of the White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for Hispanic Americans and serving as the Director of Hispanic Outreach and Communications at the U.S. Department of Education. Matta-Barrera serves as Commissioner for the Texas State Library and Archives Commission, Board Secretary for Family Services Association, and serves as an Advisory Council member for the UTSA Center for Educational Leadership, Policy and Professional Development. She has also served as chair on the Education Committee for the San Antonio Chamber of Commerce federal legislative advocacy trip. Matta-Barrera is a graduate of The University of Texas at Austin, with a double major in Government and Latin American Studies.

Shauna Goodman

Shauna Goodman joined SA Works in 2015 as a Program Director. She is responsible for recruiting new employers to the program, managing employer relations and developing and managing engagement programs. Goodman brings over 20 years of experience in Marketing and Advertising. Prior to joining SA Works, Goodman worked for the marketing firm Guerra DeBerry Coody as a Work/Life Director developing and managing a culture-building campaign, as well as the Director of Creative Production. Goodman holds a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism from the University of Oklahoma.

Nikki McNish

Nikki McNish joined SA Works in 2016 as a Program Director. She is responsible for connecting school districts, educators and students with local employers to create meaningful relationships that help expand San Antonio’s pipeline and workforce development. McNish brings over 15 years experience in marketing, advertising, promotions, events, campaigns and customer service. McNish is currently a board member and the Communications Officer for Business Advocates of San Antonio. She is also involved with many local organizations such as SAMA, CREW, GSABA, TAPTP and the Northeast Educational Foundation. She holds two Bachelor of Arts degrees from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, as well as two Texas Educator Certificates.

Ruth Trevino

Ruth Trevino joined the SA Works team as Project Coordinator in October 2016 after serving as Executive Assistant for the San Antonio Economic Development Foundation (SAEDF). She brings over 20 years of experience in managing business relations and special projects at the senior management level. Trevino currently serves as liaison between management and point of contact for personnel, clients, and vendors. Prior to joining SA Works, Trevino provided support to the business development team for business retention and expansion efforts for the SAEDF.
